Barbados is small besides the beaches are there things to do?

Barbados may be small only 166 square miles but the island has a reputation of being croc full of things to do. So if you believe that Barbados is just a typical tropical beach holiday you will be pleasantly surprised with the number of activities available to you while you are on vacation.

So along with the dazzling waters of the Caribbean Sea and the miles of spectacular coral sand beaches found around the island. Barbados rich history, strong traditions, cultural diversity, warm tropical weather and extraordinarily beautiful landscape create an environment where there are a variety of things to do.

Here we have listed some of the things to do while you enjoy all that is Barbadian, the bajan beer, our bajan cuisine, our bajan music and of course our bajan hospitality...

Road Tennis – Is the national sport of Barbados. This game which originated here on the island back in the 1950’s is a cross between lawn tennis and table tennis.

The game is called road tennis because originally it was played on courts painted on the streets in the various villages around the island. And even though this still happens to some extent the game has been move to the car parks and hard courts as the streets have gotten more congested with vehicles.

They are a number of tournaments held each year some of them under the auspices of the Barbados Road Tennis Association which is the governing body for the sport on the island.

Kite Flying – Is not peculiar to Barbados but the designs of the kites are no doubt uniquely Barbadian. This national pastime is traditionally held around the island during the Easter holidays – round kites, square kites, Star Diamonds, Propellers and Trousers are all designs that are prevalent at this time of the year.

It is not unusual to hear the humming sounds of a kite’s bull through-out the day as it dances in the sky to the cooling breezes that blow across the island.

Bicycling in Barbados – The gently sloping landscape and natural coral stone ridges of the island presents a number of adventurous nature trails back by spectacular scenery. Cycle along the trails and discover all that is uniquely Barbadian.

Barbados Hiking -- Taking a hike lets you discover Barbados off the beaten track... the Barbados most visitors never get to see! Take a guided Barbados hiking tour through the gullies and over the hills to some of the most beautiful, picturesque parts of the island you can imagine.

Horse back riding – Experience Barbados with a guided horseback riding tour and enjoy the island scenic beauty through the Scotland District National Park or through the island’s old sugar plantations with their fields of lush sugar cane.

Island Tours – There are many exciting ways to explore the island from air-condition to the 4x4 which specialize in showing you Barbados off the beaten track… The methods of touring the island have been transformed over the last twenty years resulting in a fun and exciting sight seeing experience.

Nightlife – Barbados by night it’s a party! Limbo dancing, fire eating, stilt walking, flambeaus, street barbeques, beach bars, pubs, sports bars, discos, reggae clubs, jazz clubs, karaoke bars, live theatre and the opera.
