The Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary

by Ron and Claire
(Canada)

As nature lovers one of our favorite spots was the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary located on Barbados Beautiful South coast.

The sanctuary is a lush 35-acre mangrove swamp, which stands out as one of the last remaining wildlife habitats on the island.

It is home to a number of exotic birds and fish… but some of the birds are migratory traveling to this idyllic paradise to escape the harsh winter up north.

We saw a number of brightly color birds like flamingos, Scarlet ibises, parrots, egrets and macaws…

The place is breathtaking you have to visit this environmental heritage site to believe it… the place is beautiful and tranquil with well though out boardwalks, aviaries, observation points and education pavilions.

It truly is an enjoyable must see attraction and one of the most relaxing places on the island.

We recommend this attraction to everyone especially those interested in eco-tourism and conservation.

Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary...
by: Beverly

You are right the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary is a beautiful place with so much to see and do... but this nature sanctuary, which was opened to the public in 2004, is more than a tourist attraction.

It is an important link in the wildlife habitat of Barbados and a significant educational and scientific center.

Although it has been closed over the last two years there is some good news it was recently reopen to visits from the local schools.

So let’s hope that this very popular nature attraction, educational center will remain open to both locals and visitors.
